Both will have a displacement of 6.2L, with a naturally-aspirated version producing 450 HP and a supercharged version making a robust 600 HP. Does this mean that the - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER won’t get a supercharged 7.0L LS7? The use of less displacement for more strength would follow the trend established by GM with the forced-induction versions of the Ecotec and Northstar. Now, what about the Vette in the spy pics? Some have claimed it’s a targa-roof version of the Z06, but it lacks some of that model’s scoops and extractors. More likely, it’s a new mid-level variant that would sit between the base Vette and the Z06, or it could be a mid-cycle revision. After hitting the pause button on GM's RWD cars -- a gut punch to GM fans waiting for some high horsepower goodies -- Lutz acknowledged the existence of the Blue Devil Corvette for the first time, and told Car and Driver that along with the Camaro, the Blue Devil has escaped the Reaper and is "in the final stages of tuning." While saying that the development of the car has been challenging, he delivered a number of heartwarming quotables like "This thing has so much power that we have to explore a dynamic envelope that we've never explored before. . . . We're really into a speed and power realm that General Motors has never been in before. We're way up there with Porsche Carrera GTs and Ferraris." What does that mean? It means more displacement than the Z06's 7.0L V8, but Lutz wouldn't say how much. It means "comfortably in excess of" 600 hp, but not quite 700, which GM's Head of Powertrain, Tom Stephens, says pehaps might come "in the second year." It means 0-to-60 in less than 3.4 seconds. And it means so much torque, Lutz says, that "we're obviously going to have to restrict it because otherwise you get nothing but wheelspin." Lutz also wouldn't be cornered on an arrival date or the official name of the car, but rumors are 2009 and SS, Z07, or Stingray, along with a $100,000 price tag. Leave it to Bob to deliver that kind of good news on Friday the 13th. [Source: Car and Driver] |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Super quick Corvette on the way! ![]() GM might be cutting back the development of new rear-wheel-drive models (see story - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER), but that isn’t stopping it from creating what could be the most powerful ever Corvette. The 2009 ‘Blue Devil’ will have somewhere between 600 and 700bhp, meaning it should easily be capable of 200mph. The standard 400bhp Corvette has a top speed of 186mph. In an interview in the US recently, GM vice chairman Bob Lutz said that development of the super-powerful Corvette is “too late to stop… it’s in the final stages of tuning.” Lutz seemed pretty impressed with the Blue Devil’s performance: “We’re really into a speed and power realm that General Motors has never been in. We’re way up there with Porsche Carrera GTs and Ferraris.” The ‘Blue Devil’ is expected to arrive in 2008 or possibly 2009, though with a different name. We can’t wait. Source = Autocar |

SPY PHOTOS: Corvette SS Blue Devil Text by Andreas Conradt and Brian Potter Copyright by auto media edited May 24, 2007 Blue Devil in a Red Dress ![]() ![]() ![]() The long-anticipated "Blue Devil" Corvette, also referred to as the SS, is in its final development stages and was just caught sporting a bright red paint job. This will be the hottest Corvette ever and will be pitted against such super-sports cars as the Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari's. Blue Devil appears to be living up to the earlier hype. Our spy photographers have said the car sounds supercharged, acknowledging previous reports from other publications the engine is likely a blown version of the Z06’s 7.0-liter V8, producing upwards of 600 bhp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight. We hear 2005 Le Mans class winner Jan Magnussen is turning faster-than-Z06 laps in the Blue Devil at Nürburgring. Pricing will likely start somewhere around 100,000 US-Dollars when the car makes production in 2008. There won’t be any official exports of the car to Europe.
