BMW presenting 3 interior design concepts at DESIGNMAI 2007

At DESIGNMAI 2007 in Berlin BMW Group exhibit 3 very interesting design interior design concepts - showing how creativity of designers and analytic skills of scientists can lead to interesting new theories & phenomenas. The exhibited items show how specific forms and structures affect people's perception. BMW Group will use these scientific findings & design realizations for interior design guidance when designing new vehicles.


Concept #1: "Concentration"



This object shows how human eye can be forced to focus. Concept #1 is a funnel-shaped object with a heterogeneous surface made of numerous different tiles. With increasing distance from viewer the tiles' size decreases - forcing human eyes & brain to be more focused.



Concept #2: "Relatedness"



Concept #2 shows the arrangement of two seats in opposite line of sight, producing a particularly high relatedness - especially since optical and haptic contact does not exist, yet the both seats are a part of single curved structure.


Concept #3: "Concinnity"



Model number three symbolizes balance by the integration of seat and armrests into a structure consisting of several layers. The layered structure with free spaces between the levels leads to a balance between fullness and emptiness.

And Concept #1 resembles "metal origami" theme from BMW Concept Coupe Mille Miglia 2006 interior.

I think BMW are going down the right road with their future ineriors. If they look anything like the interior from the concept cs, they will be great.

Yep, "layering" and softer, more organic shapes will be featured in future BMW interiors.

According to the above posted concepts we will also see some layering (to stress sporty luxury), "metal origami" in some models (Z-series?), and continued & related shapes and lines (when several elements are a part of "one" piece / structure).

I'm thrilled to see interiors of upcoming F01 7er, F5 LSC, E89 Z4, Z8 & new 8er.

I'm happy to see BMW finally heading towards paying more attention to details - when it comes to interiors. Current interiors are fresh, modern, avant-garde, interesting - yet they lack some refinement & sophistication. New interiors will feature a great amount nicely designed details (levers, knobs, buttons, shafts, surfaces, steering wheel, seats etc) ... It's about time ... Eg. new Renault Laguna (Passat rival) is coming with very sophisticated interior with many nicely designed details ... And BMW as a premium brand should do it even more so.

I am dissapointed you are doubting about that Until Old X5, BMW was THE KING of interior design & quality, so if they really decide to reconquer their old status and make adequate efforts, they will without a doubt kick audi's ass from the throne.
