| Cadillac is the oldest automobile manufacturer to originate in Detroit, Michigan. The company is named after the French explorer who founded the city. General Motors purchased Cadillac in 1909 and that same year Cadillac produced almost 6,000 vehicles. | The Chrysler Corporation began as the Maxwell Motor Corporation, which hired Walter Chrysler in 1921 to help the company out of bankruptcy. In November 1998 Chrysler became a division of DaimlerChrysler AG, created by a merger between Daimler-Benz and the Chrysler Corporation.
