![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If you've been itching to get your hands on a wickedly-fast coupe, but couldn't decide between a CLS 55 AMG or a BMW M6, you're in luck. Automobile magazine was lucky enough to get their hands on both of these lovely creatures, and see exactly how they stacked up against one another. By now, I'm sure you all know my views on BMW and Mercedes. BMW is the more sporty of the two; Mercedes is the more luxurious of the two. As you read Automobile magazine's comparison, you'll find that very same mantra echoed throughout the entire story. Nonetheless, if you are thinking about purchasing one of the two, but can't make up your mind, the article gives a decent look at some of the vehicle's strong and weak points. So which one did they pick? If you hate spoilers, skip to the last paragraph to go read the full article for yourself. If you want to save yourself some time and get to the juicy details, here you go: They chose, drum roll please: neither. Yes, that's right. Rather than offending Mercedes enthusiasts or BMW enthusiasts, their advice is to wait until the end of 2006, and buy an M5 with a manual transmission. Why? Because they think it will be the best choice, even though it hasn't been released yet. Rather than sitting back and allowing them to end their story without a victor, I'm going to the end the story how it should have been ended: The clear winner is the CLS. It features the same performance as the BMW M6, albeit with slightly more plush handling. In terms of styling, the CLS vastly outshines its German competitor, even with the added practicality of four doors. And if those things aren't enough, one look at the CLS' luxurious interior, and the BMW will feel more like your 16 year-old's Jetta than a $85,000 German supercar. See, that wasn't difficult at all. ![]() | Re: Automobile : M5 Vs. CLS55 AMG Oh no...this isnt going to be good. This reviewer clearly just has an issue with the 6-seires looks, and has taken it as a cue to bash the car. There is no way the CLS outclasses the 6 so obviously. The 6 is most probably the better handling car. |

M6 for me. wait for the manual give me a break, they havent even tested manuel yet. We have a lot of members over at m5board.com and no one regrets going from manuel to SMG. In fact, they didnt belive SMG was that good but aparnelty they were wrong. ![]() |

CLS55 AMG My point is how does a car magazine like Automobile come with no result at the end of such a test. That makes me feel like they are clueless. There is always a victor, just a car that they like better... "Wait for Manual" ***! Older technology will prove a victor... Im honestly disapointed with Automobile mag.... though they loved the 3'er. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Automobile : M5 Vs. CLS55 AMG I read that article and thought the same thing. Yes, I would also choose the manual M5 (thats what everyone in the U.S. is waiting for) but come on!!. Come up with a victor. I was looking at it and realised it wasnt really a full fledged comparison. They were pretty vague on both cars. It was more of a demonstration. I posted the M and AMG strategies from that article in another thread. Last edited by Matt; 12-06-2005 at 01:53 AM.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Automobile : M6 Vs. CLS55 AMG Hmmm, interesting article! it`s realy is a shame thay didn`t come up with a winner. Both these cars have there ups and down sides but when it comes to day to day practicality, sportiness, overall usefullness I`d choose the CLS55! Now if BMW is going to introduce the M6 with a manual thats a big + no one can deny, thats a must have. I would surly pick the manual over the SMG version by a long shot!! |

Anyway's good point! What is the big deal about six speed btw? Just curious, being SMG with 7 gears, new technology i thought that would have been the best method! Seem's some of the people ar really excited about manual gears? Interesting. | |
