Top Gear Question

Does anyone have ANY idea why the Mclaren F1 has never been timed around the Top Gear test track. We know that JC isnt a fan of the Mclaren F1 but it would be very interesting to see how it would compare to the modern supercars such as the MC12/Enzo/Pagani?

The strange thing is that they even had the car on the show when JC reviewed the enzo, therefore it was the perfect opportunity, but NOpes....So anyone know why?

Re: Top Gear Question

There could a number of factors why the McLaren F1 was never been tested on Top Gear's track. The first being is that Top Gear usually sticks to newer vehicles (of course they've had a few exceptions; Aston Martin DB5), but generally, newer vehicles.

Other possible factors is perhaps Top Gear never asked for an F1 to test, or perhaps the owner of that purple F1 (Rowan Atkison) did not want his car tracked.

Could be anything..

Slightly OT: If you've ever wondered why it took Top Gear so long to get the Enzo on the track it was apparently because of the warranty. When the Enzo came out, Ferrari had a very strict limitations for the vehicle, which included voiding the two year warranty if the vehicle was given some sort of a public track performance. Hence why Nick Mason had to let the Enzo's warranty run out before he gave it to them.

Re: Top Gear Question

Pretty insane that Jeremy Clarkson doesn't like the McLaren F1 - but he loves the McLaren Mercedes SLR. Two completely different cars with the F1 being way more hardcore than the SLR.

But by now, I think we've figured out that Jeremy likes comfortable practical cars for the most part with power to spare.

Re: Top Gear Question

The F1 is a driver's car where you have to be a pretty good driver to apreciate it. Hence why Tiff loves it and Clarkson doesn't.

Also, not many would let the Stig take their precious jewel for a beating.

Nope, the stig has been different people through the years. Currently I think it's an American driver.
